CFMTA-FCAPM NATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION
Entry Deadline April 1, 2021
The CFMTA/FCAPM National Piano Competition will be held virtually July 8-9 2021 at the CFMTA convention. To determine the Saskatchewan representative, a provincial competition will be judged, via video recording. An alternate will be selected by the adjudicator in the event that the winner, through unforeseen circumstances, cannot compete. Competitors and their teachers are responsible for reading and understanding the regulations governing the CFMTA/FCAPM National Piano Competition, as well as those of the Provincial level competition. National Competition Rules and Regulations
1. The National Piano Competition is limited to Competitors studying at the undergraduate level or lower as of the date of application. Competitors must not have reached their 25th birthday by January 1, 2021. They must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.
2. Competitors must be students of a Registered Music Teacher at the time of application.
3. SEMI-FINAL ROUND - No changes in repertoire are permitted once application is submitted.
a) Competitors in the CFMTA/FCAPM National Semi-final Round must present a program of 30 minutes minimum to a 45 minute maximum, consisting of the following:
• One Canadian Solo Composition
• One complete solo composition from the Classical or Baroque Period,
• A variety of shorter works to form a well-balanced program
b) Three finalists will be selected from the Semi-Final Round of the competition to proceed to the Final round of the competition.
c) AWARDS given at the conclusion of the Final Round:
• The Ernst Schneider Canadian Music Award: $1,000.00 - for the best performance of a Canadian composition
• The Chopin Award: $1,000.00 - for the best performance of a Chopin composition *
• The Willard Schultz Baroque Music Award: $1,500.00 - to the performer whose reading of Baroque music best communicates the intentions of the composer **
• The Willard Schultz Most Promising Performing Artist Award: $1,500.00 - to the performer who shows the most promise overall as a performing artist
• Canadian Musical Diversity: $500 ***
* To be eligible for the Chopin Award, the Semi-Final program must include a work by Chopin.
** To be eligible for the Willard Schultz Baroque Award, the Semi-Final program must include a work from that era.
*** To be eligible for the Canadian Musical Diversity Award, competitors are hereby encouraged to include a work demonstrating some aspect of Canadian music diversity in one of their competition programmes. A short written explanation of the specific aspect of diversity demonstrated and its significance to the performer must be submitted with the application form. (100 words or less) This new competition has been created in order to celebrate our commitment to musical diversity in Canada and it will harmonize beautifully with the theme of our virtual conference 2021.
4. FINAL ROUND - No changes in repertoire are permitted once the selection has been submitted. A completely new program must be presented. Time Limits: a minimum of 25 minutes to a maximum of 35 minutes.

• First Place: $5,000.00
• Second Place: $3,000.00
• Third Place: $2,000.00

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR THE PROVINCIAL LEVEL OF COMPETITION
- Competitors must be students of a Registered Music Teacher in Canada at the time of entry.
- The Entry package must be received by the provincial convener no later than 11:59 p.m. April 1, 2021 (late entries will not be accepted) by e-mail to srmta.registrar@gmail.com. The Entry package should include:
- Entry Form
- $100 provincial entry fee. Payments for SRMTA competition entry fees may be made by e-transfer to srmta.registrar@gmail.com OR by cheque or bank draft mailed to 50 Hoeschen Crescent, Saskatoon, SK S7J 2T1. Mail in payments must be received by date of registration
- Video Recording of the National Semi-Final repertoire (see above for requirements) by E-mailed link to your video on YouTube. Please see the YouTube Instructions on srmta.com below this application form.
- List of the National Final repertoire in order of performance including the exact time of each selection
- The name of the Provincial winner will be announced by April 15, 2021. If, in the opinion of the adjudicator, the standard attained is not of sufficient merit, no winner will be chosen.
- Decisions of the Judge at every stage of the competition will be final and not subject to question, review or appeal.
- SRMTA will pay for the national entry fee. PLEASE NOTE: This year the competition will be held virtually, so no travel, accommodations or meals will be covered.
